Counting when it counts!

I discussed race strategy today, pacing etc. What came to light is that "counting strokes" was not part of the race strategy. Counting strokes helps rhythm, finding the groove, staying in the groove. One does not have to count from one to the final stroke taken.  I used to county up to 30 and then start over again. I would count while watching the meters go down. Every stroke I took was always almost 10 meters. For me counting strokes made the piece go by faster. If you have not tried counting before I highly recommend it.  Last but not least, if you lose count, start over again, match it up with the remaining meters and off you go :-)
