Managing heart rate while rowing long distances.
If the heart rate rises beyond the target heart rate there are 3 ways to tame it back down: 1. Lower the stroke rate 2. Lower the drag 3. Focus on breathing and making sure you breathe with the bottom 4/5 of the lung. Most capillaries in the lung are at the bottom of the lungs.
I favor lowering the stroke rate first. Because simply lowering the drag and keeping the same stroke rate, just makes the heart work to move the body back and forth with less resistance. Focusing on breathing has to be constantly thought of and trained.
Make sure you drink carbs and electrolytes when you are training. Keep replenishing the glycogen reserves.
